The defense team of The Specialists Law Firm, led by Counselor Samir Gaweed, has successfully secured a full acquittal for actress Jihan El Shamashergy and all co-defendants in the widely publicized aggravated robbery case before the Cairo Criminal Court convened at the Abdeen Court Complex.
The verdict brings an end to a case that attracted significant public and media attention over the past period.
The actress appeared before the court in the early hours of Thursday in compliance with a previously issued arrest and summons order. She appeared anxious and apprehensive while awaiting the court’s final decision.
Following the hearings and the defense pleadings, the court rendered its judgment acquitting all defendants, transforming the atmosphere inside the courtroom from tension and uncertainty to relief and celebration among the actress’s supporters and close associates.
During the proceedings, the defense team at The Specialists Law Firm presented several substantial legal arguments that played a pivotal role in altering the course of the case. Among the key defenses raised were challenges to the validity and sufficiency of the police investigations, arguing that they did not constitute conclusive evidence capable of supporting a conviction. The defense also argued that the seized tool, described as a hammer, does not legally qualify as a weapon under the applicable law, in addition to questioning the credibility of one of the prosecution witnesses.
The case stemmed from allegations that actress Jihan El Shamashergy and several others were involved in an aggravated robbery incident targeting a woman in the Qasr El Nil district of Cairo. The Public Prosecution conducted extensive investigations, examined the circumstances surrounding the incident, heard witness testimonies, and collected the relevant technical and legal evidence before referring the matter to the Criminal Court.
After reviewing all evidence, pleadings, and legal submissions, the Cairo Criminal Court ultimately ruled in favor of acquitting actress Jihan El Shamashergy and all co-defendants of the charges brought against them.
